The Stop the Attacks Campaign, on March 26, urged Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi to call on the Philippine government to stop extrajudicial killings immediately. We are concerned about the escalation of extrajudicial killings in the Philippines.
Since the former Shinzo Abe administration, the Japanese central government has provided the Duterte administration with financial support and cooperation in human resources, especially in the security sector. It emphasized “strategic partnership” in the Philippines-Japan Summit Meeting. Nonetheless, the Japanese central government has left silent on the extrajudicial killings. No protest.
(1) We urge the Japanese government to immediately call on the Philippine government to stop the extrajudicial killings (EJK).
(2) We urge the Japanese government to call on the Philippine government to give an account of EJK.
(3) We urge the Japanese government to call on the Philippine government to accept investigations by the UN Human Rights Council and the International Criminal Court as to EJK.
(4) We urge the Japanese government to suspend economic and humanitarian assistance to the National Army and the Philippines National Police.
